Children affected by HIV/AIDS in Southern Africa
Rebuilding Confidence- Developing a psychosocial support programme for children affected by HIV/AIDS in Southern Africa
This research project subjects various interventions that target children affected by HIV/AIDS (CABA) in Southern Africa to scientific study. The aim is to identify essential factors that make an intervention successful, in order to develop an effective “best practice” approach that meets the psychosocial needs of the affected children.

Meeting through sport
Physical activity as means of social integration
The project "Moving toward Integration" promotes the social integration of children and youth from immigrant backgrounds by facilitating their access to organised sport. This project was initiated by the SAD and the Swiss Federal Institute of Sports Magglingen (SFISM), and has been jointly supported by both institutions since early 2005.

Building bridges-promoting dialogue
A survey of religious communities and migrant organisations in Bienne
With the financial support of the city of Bienne, MULTIMUNDO and SAD are conducting a survey of all the migrant associations and clubs, as well as religious communities in Bienne. The collected information will be released in the form of an inventory on the website of MULTIMUNDO.

Conflicting Voices of Iranian Women
Iranische Frauen im Spannungsfeld zwischen Tradition und Moderne
Die SAD unterstützte ein lokales Forschungsteam wissenschaftlich bei der Durchführung einer landesweiten Studie zu Rollen und Wirkungsfeldern iranischer Frauen im familiären und wirtschaftlichen Alltag. Untersucht wurden Coping-Strategien, Orientierungsmuster und Handlungsspielräume iranischer Frauen, welche sich zunehmend in einem Spannungsfeld zwischen Tradition und Moderne wieder finden.

An evaluation of three integration projects of the Red Cross in Spain
SAD is evaluating and monitoring three integration projects for unaccompanied minor migrants, which are being conducted by the Spanish Red Cross (SRC). The main goal is to create and validate a successful concept for the evaluation of further integration projects.

Cup of Heroes
Youth Transforming Communities through Sport
SAD and the South African organisation SCORE are partnering in a project, using sport as a tool to achieve youth empowerment and social transformation. While SCORE implements the project activities in nine disadvantaged South African and Namibian communities, SAD is responsible for assessing and evaluating its impact.

Diaspora and Migrant communities from Turkey living in Switzerland: a review study
The Swiss Academy for Development (SAD) and the Centre for Social Research (ceres) of the University for Applied Sciences, Department of Social Work, conduct a review study on migrants from Turkey living in Switzerland. With over 74’000 people, migrants from Turkey constitute the sixth largest group of resident foreigners in Switzerland.

Intercultural story competition in the Romandy
In cooperation with the Migros Culture Percentage and the publisher Editions d’en bas, SAD launched an intercultural story competition on the topic of migration. The main goal of the project was to demonstrate the literary and cultural richness, as well as the diversity of life experiences of those who have moved here.

EUROSCHOOLS 2008
Together with the 2008 UEFA European Football Cup and the 2008 European Year of Intercultural Dialogue, football is serving as an important occasion for intercultural understanding and fair play, as well as an excellent opportunity to teach these skills.

For one exciting week The EUROSCHOOLS YOUTH CAMP 2008 celebrates European diversity. More than 400 teenagers from 53 nations will live, work and play together. A Fair Play Football Tournament in Liechtenstein forms the crowning finaleDas EUROSCHOOLS YOUTH CAMP 2008 begrüßt fußballbegeisterte Jugendliche aus 53 Ländern. Die Teilnehmer können sich auf Workshops, ein europäisches Fair Play Turnier sowie viele neue Freundschaften freuen.

Football for Hope
Football for a better World - Monitoring & Evaluation concep
SAD and Aqumen Sports Consulting are jointly developing and implementing a monitoring and evaluation system for the Football for Hope Movement. The IT-based toolkit will help to guarantee quality programmes on the ground and to accurately measure the results and impact of the various programmes supported by the FfHM.

Intercultural Dialogue - Turkey
Developing a culture of dialogue: perspectives for joint action
This project offers people of different cultural and religious backgrounds a platform for exchange. The focus is on civil society actors in Turkey as well as migrant communities from Turkey in Switzerland. Getting to know each other across “frontiers” is facilitated by the possibility to present different point of views and explore joint collaboration.

Teaching Islam in Schools
A Project in Kriens and Ebikon
Commissioned by the Association of Islamic organizations of canton Lucerne (VIOKL), SAD conducted an evaluation of the teaching of Islam in two schools in the munici-palities of Kriens and Ebikon. The main goal of the evaluation was to review whether or not the project made a contribution to improved cohabitation of Muslims and Christians, as well as to the integration of Muslim communities in Switzerland.

Youth empowerment in Lebanon - Component I
Sport and play for Lebanese children and youth affected by conflict
This project uses sport and game activities to help Lebanese children and youth who were strongly affected by the war in the summer of 2006 to overcome emotional stress and become reintegrated into their day-to-day lives.

Youth empowerment in Lebanon - Component II
Risky Behaviours and Protective Factors among Youth in Lebanon This research project aims to detect risky behaviours and protective factors among youth in Lebanon and to identify the personal, as well as the social and economic factors that deter-mine or protect against such behaviours, in order to develop evidence-based and sustainable prevention programs.

Youth in Russia: Subproject I
The future of a generation in transition
This SAD project consists of three levels: 1) youth research; 2) empowerment, capacity-building and exchange; and 3) youth projects. The objective of the project is twofold: to study the social problems of Russian youth as well as their attitudes to their living conditions, and to take concrete steps to improve their situation. The first geographical focus of this study is on the Caucasus.

Move 4 New Horizons

A holistic educational programme for disadvantaged children in Nepal
SAD and the Nepalese grassroots organisation DWO are implementing an educational programme for disadvantaged out of school children in the Mid-Western region of the country. By teaching them basic reading, writing and mathematic skills in a non formal way and offering them well-guided sport and play activities, the project is taking on a holistic approach to education.

Protecting Children in War
Evaluation of the UEFA/ICRC Campaign
In Summer 2004, SAD evaluated the campaign “Protect Children In War” which was co-organized by the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), on the occasion of the European Football Championship 2004 in Portugal.

Sport and games for traumatised children and young people in Bam
Sport and games offer a meaningful recreational activity that helps to overcome emotional injury, channel frustration and aggression, increase physical and mental well-being, and transmit important basic rules for peaceful co-existence such as teamwork and fair play. Sport and games can also be used as a vehicle for educational purposes (e.g. drug prevention and HIV/AIDS information).

Xenophilia Switzerland
The intercultural game about yourself and others
Xenophilia-Schweiz ("Xenophilia Switzerland") is a computer game for young people that seeks to help individuals of different cultures, backgrounds and lifestyles understand each other better. Its playful methodology raises participants' awareness of topics such as immigration, integration, racism, prejudices and cultural misunderstandings.
