Children affected by HIV/AIDS in Southern Africa
Rebuilding Confidence- Developing a psychosocial support programme for children affected by HIV/AIDS in Southern Africa
This research project subjects various interventions that target children affected by HIV/AIDS (CABA) in Southern Africa to scientific study. The aim is to identify essential factors that make an intervention successful, in order to develop an effective “best practice” approach that meets the psychosocial needs of the affected children.

Anomie and Insurgency

Empirical research on the interrelationship between anomie and the support of and participation in non-state armed groups
The research project “Anomie & Insurgency” analyzes the potential interrelationship between social change, anomic conditions, and the shift to violent and organized groups (insurgency). The project is based on empirical research in the Niger Delta where violence occurs in various forms. The objective is to contribute to the early detection of risky social developments and hence to support the development of preventive measures against violent conflicts within a society.

The International Platform on Sport & Development (www.sportanddev.org) is a website entirely dedicated to the thematic field of ‘Sport & Development’. The ‘Platform’ serves as hub for those active and interested in this field.

Sport and Play for Inter-ethnic Dialogue among Children and Youth in Sri Lanka
Together with the Sri Lankan NGO Future Peace, SAD promotes dialogue at the local community level in Sri Lanka. Sport & play serves as a platform for children and youth to enter into dialogue and (re)build relationships transcending ethnic boundaries.

Sport and cultural diversity
The Swiss Federal Institute of Sport Magglingen (SFISM) and SAD develop a practical manual which supports sport clubs who want to use sport’s potential for improving integration of those from migrant backgrounds into their host society. The manual addressing the issues “diversity management” and “intercultural dialogue” in the domain of sport in Switzerland will be compiled and evaluated in close collaboration with sport actors and immigrants. The practical manual will be published in German and in French and shall build the basis for further education and awareness workshops in and with sport clubs.
