The role of football for development
The project “football for development” brings non-governmental organisations from Austria, Italy, Hungary and the Czech Republic together with grassroots initiatives from Kenya, South Africa, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Nigeria and the Gambia with the aim of using football and its popularity as an instrument to raise awareness on social development and especially to promote youth. The seminar in Prague from March 24 – 26 2011 offered all participants the possibility to exchange their experiences and lessons learned with regard to the World Cup 2010 and to coordinate their future activities in the domain of football and development. Usha Selvaraju, Web Editor of the International Platform on Sport and Development (www.sportanddev.org) run by SAD, also took part in the event. As a first outcome, a Good Practice Guide is planned which presents the best examples and most innovative projects. The Guide will serve as source of inspiration for football associations, clubs and fan organisations to get engaged in social issues. Finally the guide will define standards for project planning and implementation and be a source of advice for football bodies how to handle discrimination and exclusion within their own organisations. |
