SAD wins Sport for Education Award ImageThe Swiss Academy for Development (SAD), a non-profit foundation based in Biel, Switzerland won the UNICEF Sport for Education Award with its project Move 4 New Horizons (M4NH) at the Beyond Sport Summit in Cape Town on Thursday, 8 December 2011. Beyond Sport is a global organisation that promotes, develops and supports the use of sport to create positive social change across the world. A total of 347 projects competed for ten different award categories at this year's summit.

More than a virus ImageThe psychosocial impacts of AIDS on affected children in Africa
In Southern Africa, as in many parts of the world, generations of children and youths are directly confronted with the presence of HIV/AIDS in their families. They have to care for their sick parents and at the same time make a living for themselves and their siblings. A large number of these children also grow up as orphans living with their grand parents or other relatives. This HIV/AIDS related  weakening of the family structures has far-reaching social and psychological consequences for the affected children that go beyond the immediate experience of loss and illness.

SAD Project Nominated for Two Awards ImageRecently, the SAD project in Nepal „Move 4 New Horizons“ was nominated for two awards: the Beyond Sport Award 2011 and the WISE-Award. This is the project’s second nomination for the WISE-Award.

Playful Teaching Manual ImageSwiss Academy for Development (SAD) has published the "Playful teaching manual", which was developed in the framework of the Move 4 New Horizons project in Nepal. By providing practice-oriented inputs on playful teaching approaches, the manual is designed to help teachers create a learning environment, which is more responsive to the specific learning needs of marginalized children.
