SAD project among the finalists of the 2010 WISE Award
Since 2009 the World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE ) attributes the WISE Awards to especially outstanding and innovative projects from all educational sectors. This year initiatives under the theme of “Transforming Education: Investment, Innovation and Inclusion” will be rewarded. Out of hundreds of submitted projects from 89 countries, 30 were selected for the final round. An international jury will select the winners of 2010 by the end of November. They will have the possibility to present their project to the public at an international summit to be held in December in Doha.
For the past two years, the project "Move 4 New Horizons" has been implemented by SAD and the Nepalese grassroots organisation – Dalit Welfare Organisation DWO . Disadvantaged and out of school children in the mid-western region of the country are taught basic reading, writing and mathematics skills in a non-formal way and are also offered well-guided sport and play activities. Thus the project takes a holistic approach to education: the aim is not only to facilitate children's access to public schools, but at the same time to support these children, who have experienced discrimination and conflict in the past, in their psychosocial development.
