Anomie & Insurgency
In the research project “Anomie & Insurgency”, the SAD analyzes the potential interrelationship between normlessness and individual disorientation (anomie) in times of rapid social change and insurgency against an established government. Based on empirical research in Nigeria where violence occurs in various forms, the objective is to contribute to the early detection of risky social developments and hence to support the development of preventive measures against violent conflicts within a society.
Current research as well as scientific theories support the assumption that anomie may be one cause of the insurgent movements in Nigeria. The research project “Anomie & Insurgency” is based on the assumption that anomic conditions do not by themselves lead to insurgency but that they help to establish the circumstances under which key events might trigger political violence.
