With
Intercultural Monitoring, SAD has developed a participatory approach for the
implementation of diversity management in business, public administration and
civil society.
Cross-cultural encounters in the workplace
are part of the everyday reality of businesses, employers, and employees.
Different languages, cultures, religions, and customs meet each other daily at
the workplace, which can be as much a challenge as a chance for the company. If
the diversity is taken into consideration and a collective (work) culture is
created in cooperation with the employees, there can be noticeably positive
effects on the individuals as well as for the business.
Because of this, SAD has developed a
participatory approach for intercultural monitoring. It is geared at businesses
and institutions which would like to improve their workplace culture with
regards to cultural diversity, as well as to prevent or solve intercultural
conflicts.
Goals
- To improve the management of cultural diversity within a firm
- To prevent or solve potential intercultural conflicts and
misunderstandings
- To mobilize internal resources by including all relevant
individuals
- To improve the working climate and the motivation levels of the
employees
- To allow employees to identify themselves with the collective
formulation and implementation of the workplace culture
- To help the firm reposition itself through a future-oriented
and conscientious style of leadership
Approach
The exact goals and scope of the
intercultural monitoring will be defined in cooperation with the client.
Afterwards, working groups will be formed and will take part actively in the
process. Using interviews and group discussions, SAD examines the status quo as
well as existing needs, problem areas, and concerns regarding the management of
cultural diversity in the firm.
The results of the investigation are then
presented to the working group and serve as the basis for collective
discussions. Next, representatives of the upper management and the working
group formulate collective measures and prepare for the practical
implementation. SAD offers additional intercultural mediation sessions or
workshops in intercultural communication at the workplace if needed.
