Niklaus Eggenberger studied political
science and international relations at the University of St. Gallen.
With his dissertation, “The social development of Cuba between pretense and reality:
An analysis of the political socialization institutions and their effects”
(Paul Haupt Publishing House) he earned his doctorate in 2002. From 1997 to
1999, he did comprehensive fieldwork in Cuba. He also completed a post
graduate certificate in international development (NADEL) at the Swiss Federal
Institute of Technology Zurich (2003-2005) and has attended courses in project
planning, monitoring, evaluation and controlling through the Swiss Agency for
Development and Cooperation (SDC) (2003).
While pursuing his doctoral degree, Niklaus
Eggenberger worked as a scientific collaborator with special emphasis on
international relations at the Institute
of Political Science of the University of St. Gallen. He also taught economics and
economic policy at the Bildungszentrum BVS St. Gallen. Between 2002 and 2005 he
worked as co-project manager for Gerster Consulting in various mandates of SDC
and the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO). Since 2003, he has been
responsible for SAD’s collaboration with Iran. He has been executive director of SAD since January 1, 2007.
N. Eggenberger is an honorary participant
of the mentoring program at the University
of St. Gallen, as well as
a project leader and board member of the Swiss NGO Zunzùn. He is also a member
of the Swiss Society for Middle Eastern and Islamic Cultures.
