Marianne Meier is a historian and political scientist who
studied in Fribourg/Switzerland, North Carolina/USA and Siena/Italy.
She is the deputy head of the centre for Sport and Development and researcher at the Swiss Academy
for Development (SAD).
In
2005 she was mandated by
the Swiss government (SDC) to conduct a cross-cultural study specifically
focussing on gender equity, sport and development in Iran,
Zambia, and Northern Caucasus. Furthermore Marianne conducted workshops on monitoring and
evaluation for NGOs and/or coaches in Sri Lanka,
Germany, Kenya, South
Africa, Morocco,
Zambia, Malawi, Colombia
and Namibia.
She is currently managing a M&E project within the framework of “Football
for Hope” mandated by FIFA and streetfootballworld.
Her book “Tender feet on hard leather” on the history of female football was published in 2004 and awarded a
price for Gender Studies at the University of Fribourg/Switzerland. She is in
the course of finalizing her Ph.D. studies at the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg.
Marianne is a
member of the Executive board 2009-2013 of IAPESGW (International Association
for physical education and sport for girls and women) and member of the Advisory
council of Women Win.
